King Nebuchadnezzar

The Bad
Once there was a King who thought he had all power to change society. He was at the top of the world!  He had it all, the best cities, beautiful gardens and great military conquests.  Anything he said became law immediately. Why, people bowed to him and called him god. He could do no wrong. His name was King Nebuchadnezzar.  He even conquered the city of Jerusalem, a city where the true God was worshipped. When he captured that city he just so happed to bring with the captures four young teenagers Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (now, these last three mentioned were not their given names but the names given to them by the Babylonians, but we know them best by the ones listed) along with those that came into Babylon. (Daniel 1:6-7)

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream but the funny thing was he wanted the fortune tellers and mediums serving him in his court to read his mind and tell him the dream, and then interpret it. And he told them that if they could not do it, he would kill them all! (Daniel 2:1-13)  Now, I don’t know about you, but these poor fellows were in a bad way.  King Nebuchadnezzar was asking them to read his mind and to tell him what it was, how unfair. Then someone called in Daniel.  After conferring with his three friends, Daniel prayed to the true God and He gave Daniel the interpretation of the king’s dream. (Daniel 2:17-23)

So Daniel went back and told Nebuchadnezzar his dream and gave God all the credit. (Daniel 2:26-28) Was he thankful and happy? Well, sort of. He made a huge statue of his dream and commanded everyone to bow down to it, or they would be thrown into a fiery furnace!  (Daniel 3:1-6) Now, the story of the statue is for another time, but remember Daniel’s other 3 friends?  Well, they were NOT going to bow to that statue. You see, God in heaven tells us not to bow to anyone but Him, and they were going to obey even if it meant death.  So Nebuchadnezzar threw them in! But God delivered them.  God did not let them burn up, they walked right through the fire and God was right there with them.  King Nebuchadnezzar watched the whole thing in amazement.  This planted a seed in the king’s heart but seeing all that power did not make him turn his personal life over to God….yet. (Daniel 3:19-30)

The Ugly
King Nebuchadnezzar had another dream, but this one was not so nice. He called for Daniel to tell him what it meant, but this time it was not good news. He was going to become like a mad man and roam around like a beast for seven years!  But at the end of it, he would know who the true God is. (Daniel 4:1-27) This saddened Daniel, and he tried to get the king to turn from his sinful ways before this happened to him, but he would not.  So Nebuchadnezzar became a beast for 7 years, eating grass like an ox, and hair grew on him, and his nails grew like claws. When people saw him they could not even tell it was a man. He lost his kingdom, his family and his mind. He didn’t even know who he was. (Daniel 4:28-33)

The Good
Then he came to himself and realized all that he had done. I believe in that moment, he not only thought about being a beast, but about all the pain he had caused. He had been a pretty evil man.  Then he accepted God into his heart and became a different person. (Daniel 4:34-37) He was a changed man from then and I believe he is in heaven today.

When a person is in a position of authority and abuses that power to manipulate steal and murder those under his authority there are consequences to pay. Sometimes it may not happen in that person’s lifetime, but it will happen. In America today, there are many in power who feel that they can impose new laws on the nation because they are holding the power to do so.  Some of the most recent laws are going to cause hardship on the middle and lower class. They create more death with abortion laws. As time goes the gap between rich and poor will grow wider. Laws are created by lawyers, for lawyers. America has gone for many years, just as King Nebuchadnezzar did walking in pride. America, it seems, does not want God anywhere. America is not the nation I grew up in, or even for that matter it is not the nation it was just 1 year ago!  The further we go from God, the more God will let us move into judgment. Just as Neb, there is a time of the beast coming. And no, I am not talking about “The Beast”, I am talking about a time when God allows America to slip into chaos and go down the road she has chosen, without God. My friend, we are there!

It has been said what does not kill us only makes us stronger. That statement is misleading. I know many people walking around that have had bad things happen to them which are not stronger or better for the wear.   America, REPENTANCE is the ONLY way out of this mess.  Have you ever given your life to God? If not, then that is what you need to do.

Admit you are a sinner. There was a savior sent from God to save us from all of the bad things we have ever done. All the things we ever did and ever will do. His name is Jesus. He died on a cross to pay the price for all the sin you and I have ever done. But He did not stay dead. He rose again, and beat death and is now in heaven. One day He will come back and put everything right in this world. Once you have admitted you are a sinner, the next step is to believe that Jesus died for you. He came and lived a perfect life here on this earth then gave His life so we might be able to go live with him some day. And then you confess your sin to God, pray and ask him for forgiveness.  That is what you need to do to become a child of God.

If you prayed that prayer, or if you are already a Christian, repentance is the ONLY way America has any hope. Repentance means to turn completely around and head another direction.  Things that are in our life that should not be there need to be removed. King Nebuchadnezzar had true repentance, his life changed after his encounter with God. There are many people who are walking around who say they have had an encounter with God, and are unchanged in actions. That is what is wrong with America.
